Kuala Hijau

Dan Lain-lain

Designed as a captivating green space for Urbanscapes 2018 event in Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Hijau is an immersive installation that transcends the boundaries between urban and natural environments. This vibrant project, brought to life by the creative minds at the Biji-biji Initiative, offers visitors a truly unique sensory experience where vibrant greenery and captivating sounds from nature seamlessly merge, creating a mesmerizing intersection of these two worlds.

Tasked with reimagining Kuala Lumpur through a green lens, Biji-biji Initiative set out to create a green pocket space that would harmoniously blend natural elements with the urban world. The chosen location was a steady sloped concrete roof situated above the subway tunnel, culminating in a small viewing platform with breathtaking views of Kuala Lumpur's iconic Central Market.

At the heart of the installation lies the seamless integration of real plants and cutting-edge technology, as Biji-biji Initiative sought to bring nature back into the bustling cityscape. Motion sensors were artfully embedded within the planter boxes, allowing the installation to come alive as visitors approach. Upon activation of these sensors, a symphony of nature's sounds, including chirping birds, buzzing insects, and rustling trees, gently emanate from strategically placed speakers, immersing visitors in the enchanting ambiance of the natural world.

Beyond its captivating greenery and nature-inspired soundscape, the installation space served as a dynamic platform for various sustainability-focused workshops and events. The visionaries behind Urbanscapes curated an array of engaging activities, including a composting workshop to educate and inspire sustainable waste management practices, a bicycle-powered mini-concert showcasing the power of clean energy, and a contemporary dance performance art that explored the delicate balance between urbanization and the preservation of nature.
